Update: I have been fostering Broc since 9-3-05. After appointment cancellations due to the 2 hurricanes and a bout of kennel cough, Broc made it in to the vet to be evaluated in October. It turns out that what was diagnosed as chemical burns by the vet from BARC was really symptoms of severe hypothyroidism. Thank goodness there is medication for this. Broc has been on the meds for over a month and I can see an amazing difference. When I first got him, he was so lethargic and lifeless and had a blank look to him. All he wanted to do was drink water, eat and sleep. Now, he has much more energy and has gained weight. Broc is now 73 lbs. It is wonderful to see him wagging his tail and happy. It is also great to see his hair growing back. He will have to be on meds for the rest of his life. They will have to be monitored for awhile, but I am sure he will continue to get better and better. Broc has had other medical issues too. What was thought to be a deformed toe on his left back leg became enflamed and infected. Antibiotics did not clear it up, so the vet wanted to do a biopsy. There was a tumor and Broc's toe had to be amputated. The results from the biopsy were negative and he is healing well. Through all of his medical issues, Broc has been a sweetheart. He goes through daily bandage changes with no fuss at all. He loves being petted and loved on AND riding in the car. Now he thinks that the front seat is where he is supposed to be. Broc doesn't play with toys, but he does love knuckle bones. He gets along well with his 18 month old Doberman foster brother. When he gets tired of his playfulness, he just goes in his crate. With the 2 of them in a small house, it can become very crazed. Broc isn't much to look at, but he has that great Boxer personality. He is a sweet, gentle and loving soul. Broc takes all that life has thrown at him and doesn't ask for much in return. I will miss him very much when he is adopted. First Post: Broc is a super sweet, three- to four-year-old fawn male who has endured unbelievably cruel treatment. The vet who examined him suspects that this beautiful boxer has repeatedly suffered from chemical burns all over his body, even on the bottoms of his feet. Incredibly, Broc is free of heartworms, and is crate and house trained. With all the torture he has suffered, Broc remains happy, friendly and loving, and he gets along well with other dogs. We don't know how he will behave around cats. We cannot stress enough how critical it is that this wonderful and deserving boy is given a chance to heal emotionally and physically from his abuse. Broc is greatly in need of a loving family who will be able to see past the probable physical scarring into the warm heart of a gentle and faithful companion.
