Lone Star Boxer Rescue is the Houston Chapter of Austin Boxer Rescue, a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization dedicated to the health and well-being of the boxer breed. LSBR/ABR is run and managed 100% by volunteers since 1999. Our main objective is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home boxers that come to us from many sources including local animal shelters, owner surrenders, and strays. Please consider making a tax deductible donation to allow us to save more dogs in need throughout the state of Texas.

Hi, friends, Layla here! I’m about six years old and my foster mom says I have the sweetest temperament and desire to please and that I am calm and affectionate. I’m blushing but it’s true! I live for love and cuddles.

I walk nicely on the lead, only pulling very occasionally when an interesting smell attracts me. After being in a kennel for too long a time, I now adore exploring my new backyard and taking walks. I love smelling all the things and am very curious. In fact, when my foster dad is working on projects, I am his right hand girl, making sure he is well supervised and all his tools are in tiptop condition!

I’m also completely housebroken, nary an accident since I arrived at my foster home. I’ll let you know when I need to go out and will even nuzzle you awake at night, if I just can’t hold it any more, which happens very, very rarely.

I am good as gold in my crate although I do very much appreciate a treat for getting in there. When we are just hanging around the house, I often go in on my own. My foster parents put a big beach towel on top so it’s like a cozy den.

I haven’t had much of a chance to meet other dogs but I have made friends with the neighbor pooch through the fence. She barks at me sometimes and I just wag my tiny tail back.  However, cats and small dogs....no bueno!

My foster mom also thinks I’m smart. It took just a couple of days for me to learn to sit tight when she opens the door, and then on the release of "okay" I can dash out. I also sit and wait patiently for a quick “okay” to eat when my bowl is put down. Speaking of food, I am enthusiastic fan of mealtimes. I bounce around as my bowl is being prepared in a most delightful manner. I am a very tidy eater as well.

In fact, whenever I am happy, I leap into the air just like Tigger, to express my pleasure in the beautiful weather, my people coming home, the jangle of the lead which means a walk is imminent and, of course, the fixing of my meals. As much as I like to jump around, it’s never on people. I am way too ladylike for that!

My favorite hobby is lounging in the sunshine. After so long in a kennel, it’s a joy to feel the warm sunshine on my fur so I follow the sunbeams around the house and yard, just basking! I am also a fan of the car. If the car door is open, I am in like a shot! I love to ride with my safety harness, but I am also eager to jump in the car, just in case it’s going somewhere.

My foster mom says that I’ve quickly wiggled my way right into their hearts, with my wagging tail and soulful, expressive eyes, and that whoever adopts me will be blessed with a loyal, loving family member forever. I promise it’s all true!
